SPERRY

Born into a family with a long sea-faring tradition, Paul Sperry had a curiosity for adventure. Years of rough seas, slippery decks and struggles for sure footing, prompted Sperry to set out for a solution. After watching his dog grip the frozen ground in 1935, he got an idea to make grooves into the bottom of rubber soles for a better grip on slick surfaces, like a dogs paw. "Sticks like a barnacle" soon became the term to describe the soles that Sperry had created.
